Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Obtain & document nursing history from patients and/or significant others that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems.
  • Performs basic assessment of patients, indicating adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Record vital signs, note changes, and pursue more specific investigations as needed
  • Identify abnormal diagnostic data, and show a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and/or others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
  • Communicate with the patient and his or her family and other members of the health care team in carrying out the goals of the care plan
  • Accept accountability for clinical care of assigned patients including supervision of nonprofessional personnel.
  • Evaluate and note the patient’s response to care defined in the care plan and medical records
  • Assume responsibility for professional growth by current reading and attendance at educational programs and unit conferences.
 

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds as needed for patient transfer (with assistance of other staff). Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies.
  • Sometimes has to wheelchair patients with a force of up to 70lbs
  • Requires visual acuity correctable to 20/30 and hearing within normal range
  • Requires exposure to bodily fluids.
